The Centre for Ancient Cultures within the School of Philosophical, Historical and International Studies at Monash University seeks to fill a continuing position to commence in January 2019. We are looking for a colleague who has experience in the archaeology and history of the greater Mediterranean region, with a focus on Egypt, and who is enthusiastic about joining a team of scholars dedicated to inter-disciplinary and interregional research.
The appointee will contribute to teaching in the undergraduate and honours programmes in Archaeology and Ancient History at the Centre for Ancient Cultures at Monash and will undertake research supervision of graduate students. They should have experience teaching Egyptian archaeology and history from the predynastic to Ptolemaic periods and be prepared to collaborate through research and team-teaching as well as to support the centre's engagement and public activities. The successful candidate must have demonstrated leadership experience in archaeological research and should be actively involved in a field project in the wider Mediterranean, preferably with potential student participation in the project. The appointee will have a proven capability to make a significant contribution to research in Mediterranean archaeology, with an established record of high-quality publications. They will play a key role in expanding the Centre for Ancient Culture’s strengths in interregional studies of Egypt and its relationship to the broader Mediterranean.
