| The Department of Art History and Archaeology at the University of Missouri announces a full-time, tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, depending on qualifications, to begin fall 2014. We seek an archaeologist with broad training in Roman and medieval art and archaeology whose research centers on Italy and the western provinces. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate courses in the art, archaeology, and material culture of western Europe and graduate courses in the area of specialization. The PhD is required for appointment at these ranks. Candidates will be evaluated on teaching experience and research record. |
The department offers the BA, MA, and PhD degrees in art history and archaeology. This new position builds on the Department’s existing strengths in the art and archaeology of the ancient and medieval Mediterranean and the High Middle Ages in western Europe. Active participation in archaeological fieldwork, student advising, and service on graduate committees is expected.
The department currently includes nine full-time faculty. There are usually about 80 undergraduate majors and 25 graduate students. Graduate degrees in art history and archaeology can be combined with interdisciplinary minors in Ancient Studies, Medieval and Renaissance Studies, Museum Studies, and Women’s and Gender Studies. The University of Missouri is the main campus of the state university system and offers a broad range of undergraduate and graduate programs. Campus resources include the Museum of Art and Archaeology, with a collection of 16,000 objects, excellent library resources for European archaeology, and a Visual Resources Center.
